CALL TO WORSHIP Sandy Barrow
One: Listen to the good news. God is with us, this day and every day.
All: Because God is with us, we can face each day with courage. We can find something good in everything, for we are never really alone.
One: God’s goodness sometimes seems to be a trickle, sometimes pulsing spurts, and sometimes a mighty flood. But always God is with us.
All: We worship you, O God, for your goodness. We praise and seek you in our songs and prayers. We offer ourselves to you because you are our God.
CALL TO CONFESSION Anna E. Rosas
God has always been there for us, loving and calling us and calling us to be all that we can be. Let us tell God about ourselves, not leaving anything out.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Ever loving, ever living God, you have given us life itself and have asked us to be life-giving people in your name. But we, in turn, have cared more about ourselves and the comfort that we have than about your people in every place. There are people in our community who are left out of our thoughts and prayers, because our minds and hearts are too crowded with all the things that will make us feel self-satisfied. The world aches for peace, while we proclaim power to be more important. People on our streets go hungry because we make sure we are full before even thinking about them. God, give us the purpose that you gave the people of Jesus’ time to be faithful disciples in your care. Through Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Do not fear, says the Lord,
for I have redeemed you.
I have called you by name, you are mine.
God is doing a new thing; now it springs forth!
By the grace of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
Thanks be to God.

THE WORD
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION Sandy Barrow
May your Word fall into our hearts this day, O God,
as breath comes out of dust,
as water feeds rivers and fields,
rich with healing,
abundant, alive, and true. Amen.

THE RESPONSE
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE – Annie Castro and Alejandra Rondon
Let us pray for the needs of the world saying,
Gracious God, hear our prayer.
God of all goodness, we give you thanks for the newness you give us each day. We thank you for your surprises, for the people you put in our paths to show us new dimensions of your faithfulness. Today we especially thank you for fathers and father-like figures who have guided and loved us throughout our lives.
Gracious God, hear our prayer.
We thank you for all nations, for racial and ethnic differences, for the variety of languages, foods, and lands you have created.
Mold us into people who praise you for the marvels you set before us.
Help us not to fear distinctions but to embrace them as your gifts.
Gracious God, hear our prayer.
Soften us, Lord, so that we are able to enter into another’s pain. In this time of a social distancing, we pray for those who are lonely. In this pandemic, we pray for those who are sick and those who care for them. In this time of economic uncertainty, we pray for those who have lost their jobs. In this time of racial tension, let us be the first to admit we must change. When we are healthy, make us grateful. When we are in need, help us to receive the care of others.
Gracious God, hear our prayer.
And now let us pray the prayer our Lord taught us:
For the Lord’s Prayer we appreciate the diverse traditions and backgrounds that make up the Riviera family of faith, and encourage you to use whatever words for this prayer are meaningful for you.
THE LORD’S PRAYER unison
Our Creator in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

CALL TO OFFERING Rev. Martha M. Shiverick
PENTECOST OFFERING
Each year on Pentecost Sunday, we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birthday of the church. The Holy Spirit remains with us still, connecting us with the church of the past, continuing to inspire the church of today, and pointing us to the church of the future. Each year, this celebration is marked by receiving the Pentecost Offering which nurtures the faith of those who are the church to come – children, youth, and young adults.
40% of the Pentecost Offering remains with our congregation to support our ministry at Frances Tucker Elementary School to purchase backpacks for the 5th grade class.
