GATHERING
OPENING HYMN –
CHIMING OF THE HOUR and WELCOMING THE LIGHT
WELCOME – Rev. Martha M. Shiverick
CALL TO WORSHIP –– Psalm 100 — Butch Sorenson
One: Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth.
All: Worship the LORD with gladness; come into his presence with singing.
One: Know that the LORD is God. It is he that made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
All: Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name.
One: For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
CALL TO CONFESSION — Rev. Dr. David Welton
Jesus, you are the Good Shepherd who gave your life for the sheep. You are the Judge who was judged in our place. Let us then with boldness approach the throne of grace that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Let us confess our sin against God and our neighbor.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Righteous God, you have crowned Jesus Christ as Lord of all. We confess that we are slow to acknowledge his rule. We give allegiance to the powers of this world, and fail to be governed by justice and love. In your mercy, forgive us.
Christ our King, teach us to see your face among the poor— feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, welcoming the stranger, clothing the naked, and visiting those who are sick or in prison. We look forward to your reign of justice, compassion, and love. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Hear the good news! Who is in a position to condemn? Only Christ, and Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us. Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. The old life has gone; a new life has begun. Know that you are forgiven and be at peace. Amen.
CHILDREN’S MESSAGE — Rev. Rosemary Noga Welton
CHILDREN’S SERMON EXTROIT
THE WORD
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION — Butch Sorenson
God of mercy, you promised never to break your covenant with us. Amid all the changing words of our generation, speak your eternal Word that does not change. Then may we respond to your gracious promises with faithful and obedient lives; through our Lord Jesus Christ.

THE RESPONSE
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE — Rev. Dr. David Welton
You have gathered us together on this Lord’s Day to remember the ways we are blessed in this life, and to pray for those in our world who are in want or need. Blend our distant voices into one, and as we offer up each petition, let us say,
Bring in your kingdom of love.
We thank you for the nurture and sustenance you give us in good food; help us reach out to those who are hungry and sustain them,
Bring in your kingdom of love.
We thank you for clean water to drink and clean air to breathe; help us to care for our planet and pass on a clean environment to the next generations,
Bring in your kingdom of love.
We thank you for our safe homes and families who love us; help us to welcome strangers in our midst and treat them as family,
Bring in your kingdom of love.
We thank you for good healthcare and the chance at living long, fruitful lives; help us to create a country that cares for its people who need doctors and hospitals;
Bring in your kingdom of love.
We thank you for our safety in a world filled with fear and hatred; help us to heal our divisions, care for those who feel they don’t matter, and reform our broken systems;
Bring in your kingdom of love.
Most of all we thank you for the faith that inspires us to be your servants, in one mind and heart, and for your presence in our world in your Son Jesus Christ. Hear us as we pray as he taught us:
THE LORD’S PRAYER
For the Lord’s Prayer we appreciate the diverse traditions and backgrounds that make up the Riviera family of faith, and encourage you to use whatever words for this prayer are meaningful for you.
Our Creator, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.
