CHIMING OF THE HOUR & WELCOMING THE LIGHT
WELCOME – Rev. Martha M. Shiverick
CALL TO WORSHIP — Nancy Stults
One: You have been called to the banquet.
All: This is the feast.
One: You have been summoned to the wedding.
All: This is the feast of life and light.
One: From streets and the byways, God has invited us.
All: We have come to the banquet that has no end.
One: Let us worship God! Alleluia! Amen!
CALL TO CONFESSION John and Vivian German
Let us come before the throne of God, the mercy seat, with all our humanity, open to the peace of promised forgiveness.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
You invite us to your feast, O God, and we do not come. You beg us to give thanks for life, and we fail in our thanksgiving. You have made for us a wonderful earth, and we neglect the gift. Forgive us for what we have done and for abandoning the pathway you desire for us. Be our guide and our conscience. Turn our feet and hands to your will, that all we do might give glory to you. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
The God of peace, who calls all creation to live in unit, hears our pleas.
In the spirit of feasting and thanksgiving, in the mercy of Almighty God,
we are forgiven and restored to new life. Thanks be to God!

THE RESPONSE
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE — Christian and Susan Mazzola
Mother, Father, Parent God, you never abandon your children; your steadfast love endures forever, your faithfulness throughout the generations.
We pray for those in our world whose trust has been broken through exploitation by people in power or abuse by those in intimate circles.
We pray for those whose trust has been broken through abandonment by those who promised to stay or manipulation by those who refuse to let go.
We pray for those whose trust has been broken through cold comfort in times of affliction or callous rebukes to those on the margins.
We pray for those whose trust has been broken through the trauma of violence
or the chaos of assault.
Empower us, your body, to enfold and protect the vulnerable, those who have been broken in body, mind, or spirit, through your all-embracing love.
We pray all this in Christ’s name who taught us to pray in this manner:
THE LORD’S PRAYER
For the Lord’s Prayer we appreciate the diverse traditions and backgrounds that make up the Riviera family of faith, and encourage you to use whatever words for this prayer are meaningful for you.
Our Creator, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.
ANNOUNCEMENTS and the CALL TO OFFERING Rev. Martha M. Shiverick
Creator God, you are our provider. We offer all that we have and all that we are to you, because we belong to you. Bless these gifts and empower us, your church, that through the work of your Spirit we may be a refuge for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm, and shade from the heat. Through Christ our shield and stronghold. Amen.
